Background: Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens. State Farm is committed to helping end these tragedies. State Farm’s comprehensive Teen Driver Safety Website, which is filled with free tools, tips, and resources, is designed to help teens and their parents throughout the learning-to-drive process.

Goal: State Farm’s goal is to provide research-based tools that help teens learn how to drive and help parents teach teens to drive. These tools supplement state and provincial programs and coordinate with various phases of licensing. For instance, several fact sheets are available which discuss important issues related to learning to drive such as passengers, seatbelts, Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) and driving experience. There is a driver feedback program available for the iPhone as well as the Teen Driver Handbook which guides parents and teens on how to improve driving skills.

Programs and initiatives:

  • Road Aware is an online interactive program designed to help teens recognize hazards on the road. The online program allows teens to safely practice their skills in a variety of driving scenarios which vary in difficulty and length of time to complete.
  • ROADTRIPS is a tool for monitoring the number of supervised driving hours that are required for licencing. This tool helps teens and parents reach their goal and maximize the quality and efficiency of driving practice. It helps teens by allowing them to plan their drives, watch tutorials, print tip sheets and log their driving hours.
  • Celebrate My Drive is an initiative promoting community interaction which encourages young drivers to make safe driving choices when they are behind the wheel. The slogan 2N2™ (keeping 2 eyes on the road and 2 hands on the wheel) is used to instigate changes in teen drivers’ habits.
