![]() Certifications ⁄ designations ![]() Driver ⁄ Criminal record check: Applicants of a driver training instructor’s licence must have less than 10 demerit points within the past 2 years, and no convictions under the Criminal Code concerning driving of a motor vehicle or convictions in any other jurisdiction for offences analogous to those under the Criminal Code concerning driving of a motor vehicle for 3 years before the application; applications for a driver training instructor’s licence may be rejected if a police check indicates a conviction for an offence involving dishonesty, violence or indecency within the past 5 years ![]() Licence held: Hold British Columbia Class 5 (for instructions on Class 5 or 7 licences), or Class 6 (for instructions on Class 6 or 8 licenses) ![]() Age ![]() Minimum driving experience: 3 years

![]() Additional vehicle requirements: A rear view mirror firmly mounted so as to give the instructor a clear and unobstructed view of the highway to the rear of the vehicle and separate from mirrors that the vehicle was originally equipped with when manufactured ![]() Automatic ⁄ manual transmission ![]() Dual control brakes: Dual clutch pedals for manual transmission vehicles ![]() Passenger restrictions ![]() Required insurance: Ensure that vehicle conforms to current statutes and regulations and bear valid licence plates, registration and insurance forms, and mechanical inspection certificates as required. Vehicles must be mechanically inspected once per year at an approved commercial vehicle inspection facility. ![]() Vehicle signage: Display the words “student driver” in legible printed upper case letters not less than 50 mm high with the lettering and background colours in contrasting shades displayed on the top or rear of the vehicle and visible to the rear ![]() Vehicle class used: Any vehicle driven by licensed Class 5 driver

FOLLOWING PROGRAM COMPLETION
![]() Driver Education certification issued to student: Once the above requirements have been met, a completed Declaration of Completion form will be issued by the Driver Training School ![]() Insurance discount ![]() Time-reduction in GDL program (number of months): New drivers who successfully complete an ICBC-Approved Driver Education Course will receive a 6 month reduction in their novice stage if the driver remains violation and at-fault crash-free for the first 18 months of their novice stage
