PASSENGER VEHICLES MOTORCYCLES 1 MOTORCYCLES 2

To obtain a motorcycle licence in NS, there are two GDL stages: Class 7 or 8 (Learner); and Class 6 (Novice). Initially, riders have to qualify for a Class 7 Learnerís licence because it covers the basic tests everyone must pass, i.e. vision, road signs, traffic and safety rules. NS riders can then get a separate motorcycle licence or get a motorcycle endorsement added on to their passenger vehicle licence.

Minimum entry age: 16 years, 3 months
Minimum exit age: 18 years, 3 months
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Parental consent
Successfully passed test  ⁄ course: Class 6 road test
Time completion: Held Class LM licence for 6 months (or 3 if approved motorcycle course was completed)
EXIT REQUIREMENTS
Successfully passed test ⁄ course
Time completion: Hold a Class 6N licence for 2 years

SUSPENSION & PROHIBITION
Licence suspensions will delay graduation to the regular driver stage by 2 years from the date the licence is reinstated
Lower driver penalty point threshold: 6 instead of 12; if Learner drivers get 6+ demerit points, their licence will be suspended for 6 months
Must be suspension-free for 24 consecutive months to graduated to a full Class 5 licence

ADDITIONAL CLASS 6N FEATURES
A Class 6N motorcycle licence is also valid as a Learnerís licence for passenger vehicles
Must remain at this level for two years or may choose to get a 5(N) with the Motorcycle endorsement (A)
