PASSENGER VEHICLES MOTORCYCLES

To obtain a licence to operate a passenger vehicle in the NWT, there are three GDL stages:
Stage 1 - Class 7 (Learner);
Stage 2 - Class 5P (Novice); and
Stage 3 - Class 5 (full licence).
Effective date of program implementation: June 1, 2005

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Time completion: Held a Class 5P licence for 12 months suspension free
Successfully passed test  ⁄ course

SUSPENSION & PROHIBITION
Accumulation of 15 or more demerit points, the Registrar shall suspend the driverís licence for one month
DRIVER IMPROVEMENT ACTIONS
Where a client holds a class of driverís licence other than a Class 7 and completes an approved driver improvement course: 

a) The Registrar shall remove half of the demerit points on the driving record of the client; or

b) Where the total number of demerit points on the driving record is five (5) or less, remove all the demerit points from the driving record.
