PASSENGER VEHICLES MOTORCYCLES

To obtain a licence to operate a passenger vehicle in YK, there are two GDL stages: Class 7 (Learner); and Class 5 (Novice).

AGE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum entry age: 15 years
Minimum exit age: 16 years, or 6 continuous months if over 16
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Driver education: Voluntary
Knowledge test
Parental consent: By a parent or legal guardian, if driver is under 18 years of age
Vision test
EXIT REQUIREMENTS
Successfully passed test ⁄ course: Class 5 road test
Time completion: By a parent or legal guardian, if driver is under 18 years of age
STAGE DURATION
Minimum duration: 6 months
Maximum holding period
SUPERVISORY DRIVER
Age: 18 years of age or older
BAC level while supervising: 0.0 BAC
Licence held: Full privilege class 5 licensed
Location while supervising: In front passenger seat
Time Licensed: Held a full privilege class 5 licence for 18 continuous months
SUPERVISED DRIVING
Minimum amount of supervised driving: 50 hours, must be a Declaration stating that the minimum number of driving hours were completed and the parent/guardian/co-driver who taught the learner must sign the document well
DRIVING RESTRICTIONS AND CONDITIONS
BAC level while driving: 0.0 BAC
Display "L" sign⁄plate when driving: Mandatory
Night driving: No driving between midnight and 5 a.m.
Other restrictions
Passenger restrictions: One passenger, in addition to the co-driver unless they are all family members
Road restrictions
SUSPENSION & PROHIBITION
An interview with the Registrar of motor vehicles is required for reinstatement; if license is suspended, cancelled, or disqualified, the driver will be required to restart the GDL Learner stage; when the Learner license is reinstated, the driver must again meet the time requirement for the Learner stage and will not be eligible to progress to the Novice stage for at least another 6 months
If the license is suspended, cancelled, or disqualified, the driver will be required to restart the GDL Novice stage
Lower driver penalty point threshold: 7 instead of 15; if 7 or more demerit points have been assigned, suspension will be 1 month if it is the first time within a 1 year period that 7 points have accumulated; 2 months if it is the second or subsequent time the driver accumulated 7 or more demerit points within a one year period
Violation of any GDL restrictions: If any conditions of this licence are broken, the driver receives a summary conviction ticket, and upon conviction, will be required to restart the GDL Learner stage
DRIVER IMPROVEMENT ACTIONS

ADDITIONAL CLASS 7 FEATURES
May drive a vehicle that is equipped to carry more than 7 persons, including the driver, and has registered gross vehicle weight not exceeding 4000kg
