PASSENGER VEHICLES MOTORCYCLES

To obtain a licence to operate a passenger vehicle in YK, there are two GDL stages: Class 7 (Learner); and Class 5 (Novice).

AGE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum entry age: 16 years, or 6 continuous months if over
16
Minimum exit age: 17.5 years
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Successfully passed test  ⁄ course: By a parent or legal guardian, if driver is under 18 years of age
Time completion: Held a Class 7 Learner licence for a minimum of 180 days “six months”
EXIT REQUIREMENTS
Time completion: Held a Class 5 Novice licence for 18 continuous months

DRIVING RESTRICTIONS AND CONDITIONS
BAC level while driving: 0.0 BAC
Night driving: If driving between midnight and 5 a.m., must be accompanied by a qualified co-driver
Passenger restrictions: 9; No passengers in the box of a truck being operated by a novice driver
SUSPENSION & PROHIBITION
An interview with the Registrar of motor vehicles is required for reinstatement; if license is suspended, cancelled, or disqualified, the driver will be required to restart the GDL Learner stage; when the Learner license is reinstated, the driver must again meet the time requirement for the Learner stage and will not be eligible to progress to the Novice stage for at least another 6 months
Lower driver penalty point threshold: 7 instead of 15; if 7 or more demerit points have been assigned, suspension will be 1 month if it is the first time within a 1 year period that 7 points have accumulated; 2 months if it is the second or subsequent time the driver accumulated 7 or more demerit points within a one year period
Accumulation of 15 or more demerit points, the Registrar shall suspend the driver’s licence for one month
Violation of any GDL restrictions: If any conditions of this licence are broken, driver receives a summary conviction ticket and, upon conviction, will be required to restart the GDL Novice stage.

ADDITIONAL CLASS 7N GLP FEATURES
May drive a vehicle equipped to carry not more than 9 persons, including the driver, with a registered gross vehicle weight not to exceed 4000kg
